What makes it different
More than a place to sleep
Most holiday homes give you beds and a kitchen. La Crème adds the things that turn a weekend into a proper break — whatever the Belgian coast is doing with the weather.
A dry sauna
A proper, roomy dry sauna, included and always available. After a day by the sea there is little that warms you better.
Billiard and darts
A pool table, a darts board and deep leather sofas, in a converted garage well away from the bedrooms — so some of you can carry on while the others turn in. The sauna is in there too.
A fire in the middle of the room
A three-sided gas fire sits between the lounge and the dining table, so it is the centre of the room from wherever you are sitting. Lit in seconds, no logs to carry.
The living floor
One long open room
Kitchen, dining table and lounge run into one another across a single slate floor, divided only by the fire. Cook without leaving the conversation, and seat everyone at once when it is ready.
The kitchen has a five-burner gas hob, two built-in ovens and everything you need to cook properly rather than make do. A starter pack of dishcloths, sponges and detergent is waiting when you arrive.
Around the table
Eight chairs, one table
A square oak table with eight high-backed rattan chairs — no squeezing in, no second sitting. A high chair is there if you are travelling with a small one.
It is the kind of table people stay at long after the plates are cleared, which is usually the point of taking a house together in the first place.
Outside
A walled terrace, out of the wind
Paved, sheltered on every side and large enough for a lounge set and a full dining table at the same time. The charcoal barbecue is there for the evenings the coast gives you.
Being walled matters here. The sea breeze that makes the beach bracing tends to stop at the garden wall.
What guests say
We spent twelve days in the house and it was wonderful. We enjoyed the terrace for barbecues in the evening, the sauna to relax after visiting Bruges and Ghent, and we had a lot of fun playing billiards. The house is very spacious and well equipped.
Plenty of room for three generations of the family. Close to the beach and local shops. We cooked most evenings and the kitchen was equipped well enough to make that easy.
Good location, a friendly welcome, and everything exactly as described. The games room with the sauna went down very well with our teenagers — and with us.

Where you are
Mariakerke, the quiet end of Ostend
Four hundred metres from the sand, and far enough from the centre that the street is calm at night. The promenade will carry you into Ostend proper whenever you want the restaurants, the market and the harbour.
