Mariakerke, the quiet end of Ostend
Ostend has two halves. There is the busy centre, with its harbour, market and restaurants — and there is Mariakerke, a few kilometres west, where the promenade widens, the crowds thin and the beach keeps going. La Crème is in the second one.

400 m to the sand
A five-minute walk to Mariakerke beach and the promenade running along it. Wide, flat and open — the kind of beach you walk in January as readily as in July.
The coastal tram
The Kusttram runs the length of the Belgian coast, from De Panne to Knokke-Heist, and stops at Mariakerke. It is the easiest way into Ostend centre, and a fine way to see the coast without moving the car.
Everything within walking distance
Supermarket, bakery, restaurants, the swimming pool, and the tram and bus stops are all an easy walk. Guests routinely cook in rather than drive out — and Ostend centre is about ten minutes away.
Free parking across the road
Violierenlaan is split: the La Crème side is reserved for residents, the opposite side is free and open to anyone. So you park directly across the street, at no cost and with no permit — which on this stretch of coast is worth having.
Bruges and Brussels
Ostend station has direct trains inland. Bruges is roughly a quarter of an hour away and Brussels a little over an hour — near enough for a day out, far enough that you come home to somewhere quiet.
Getting here
Violierenlaan 64, 8400 Oostende
Mariakerke sits west of Ostend centre, a few streets back from the seafront. By car you leave the E40 into Ostend and follow signs for Mariakerke. By train you arrive at Ostend station and take the coastal tram west, or a short taxi ride.
